Wendy Pratt was born in Scarborough in 1978. She now lives just outside Filey, N.Yorks. She worked as a biomedical scientist for thirteen years before becoming a full time writer. Wendy is widely published in journals and magazines, as well as being an award winning poet. She was highly commended in the Forward Prize 2015 and also won both the YorkMix and Prole laureate poetry competitions in 2015. Her first pamphlet, Nan Hardwick Turns into a Hare and her first full collection, Museum Pieces, were both published by Prolebooks. Her pamphlet, Lapstrake, was published by Flarestack Poets. She has a full collection, Gifts the Mole Gave Me published by Valley Press. In 2017 Wendy’s poem The God of Small Things was highly commended in the Manchester cathedral Prize. You can find details of her readings on the readings page. In 2020 Wendy was shortlisted in the Alpine Fellowshipwriting prize. Wendy was one of the winners of the Poetry Businessbook and pamphlet competition. Her third full collection When I Think of My Body as a Horse is published by The Poetry Business.
Wendy has written for the northern zine Northern Soul as poetry correspondent. She worked as a mentor, mentoring disadvantaged women as part of the Womentoring project. She offers a private mentoring service, details of which can be found on the readings and events page. Wendy was also a columnist for Yorkshire Life Magazine for several years.
Wendy has a BSc in biomedical science from Hull university, a BA in English Literature with the Open University, an MA in creative writing with Manchester met, with distinction and has recently been offered a PhD place at York University.

I just followed a link to your websire from the miscarraige association where i was dling some research for work. Thank you for your honest account of building a life after deciding not to carry on trying for children, my husband’s cousin is in this situation and I will communicate better with her after reading it.
